I Have Joined Every Business Promotion Network Out There and Still Nothing!

So, I had a friend of mine come to me today and said "I have joined 50 different business opportunities and advertised them from here to Bensonhurst and not one person has even joined even when it was free to join." Well, this stands to reason and I'll tell you why.



My friend has been joining all the social networks for business promotion. There are thousands upon thousands of internet marketers doing the same thing. This is NOT going to work for most average people. If you are trying to promote your business in an environment where 99% of the population is also trying to promote their business, you have left out the most important part of your marketing efforts. THE MARKET! You can't sell something to an internet marketer, who is trying to sell you something back because neither one of you is interested in what the other is selling. The only interest you will get is someone interested in selling what you are sellling and upgrading from the affiliate program they are currently involved in. Now, don't get me wrong, these are excellent places to find good affiliate programs, and learn a lot about marketing, but that is not where the market is. Now sure, you may make the occassional sale of some useful information on marketing, because that is going to be the biggest market on a site like this, but your market is somewhere else. On top of that, someone else on this network is probably giving that information away for free. So there goes that sale.



Use these sites to learn how to market, and then go find your market. You aren't going to sell an Ebook on internet marketing easily on a network where there is 10k other people trying to sell the same information. You are in retrospect wolves fighting over a morsel of meat.



Now, the network creator, being a superior marketer, is drawing in a few bucks here and there on an affiliate program he built his network around. Don't tell anyone I said that. There is nothing wrong with that at all. That is the idea. He found his market and flooded it with a hungry crowd. Don't knock him. Just brush up your skills and think for a little while.



DO NOT jump on every band wagon everyone else is jumping on. Come up with a unique idea and stick with it. You will be able to tell if you are on to a good idea or not pretty fast. If people are biting, then it's probably good. If people aren't biting, well, may be time to retool your efforts. You need to have a basis for comparison first. You need to have a test crowd per say. The one thing that is not going to work is trying to get people to sign up for free programs. We all know there is an upsell somewhere. We need to come up with originality.

Good points. I think people shouldn't limit themselves to advertising online. Although it is the easiest and most convenient, it doesn't always produce results. Starting January 1st, I am taking my business know-how offline. I'm going to start by designing a logo, business cards and take it to my local area businesses. Maybe I'll even put an add in the newspaper. I'm already using Craigslist, but it's not producing results. Probably because the competition for what I do is just too high.

Defining what makes me different from my competition is hard to come up with. Every job I do for someone is different. But custom website builders are not hard to find.

Any thoughts?
